MiniRoos (U6-U11)
Where Young Olympians Begin.

At Adelaide Olympic FC, our MiniRoos program is the cornerstone of junior development, welcoming boys and girls aged 4 to 11 to their first experience with soccer.

We know that every great player starts with a love for the game. MiniRoos is all about fun, skill-building, and igniting a lifelong passion for soccer — all within a supportive, inclusive, and encouraging environment.

Our MiniRoos program is more than just soccer training - it’s a place where children develop essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and resilience, all while having fun on the field. Through carefully structured sessions, our experienced coaches teach the basics of soccer; dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending, using engaging drills and small-sided games that ensure every child gets plenty of touches on the ball.

We recognise that every child is unique, which is why our program is tailored to different skill levels and abilities. Whether your child is taking their first steps in soccer or has been playing for a while, MiniRoos at Adelaide Olympic FC provides a safe, supportive, and motivating environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive. Our coaches focus on creating a positive atmosphere where children build confidence, make friends, and enjoy the camaraderie of being part of a team.

A highlight of our program is the use of small-sided games, which keep children actively involved and give them more opportunities to make decisions, touch the ball, and experience the joy of scoring. This format not only makes the game fun but also helps players develop quickly, applying skills in real-game situations and learning to think and act as a team.

MiniRoos is about more than soccer — it’s about community. We foster strong relationships between players, coaches, and families, creating a sense of belonging and pride in our club. Our program also emphasises sportsmanship, respect, and fair play, teaching values that extend beyond the field.

For many children, MiniRoos is the first step in their soccer journey, and we are committed to making it a positive and memorable experience. Whether your child dreams of playing professionally or just wants to enjoy the game with friends, our program provides the perfect platform to ignite their passion and develop their skills.

Give your child the chance to be part of something special. Join the Adelaide Olympic FC MiniRoos program and watch them grow in confidence, skill, and love for the beautiful game. It’s more than soccer — it’s the start of an exciting journey and a lifelong connection to the sport.

At Adelaide Olympic FC, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop their skills, build confidence, and grow a lifelong love for football.

Our MiniRoos and Junior programs are designed not only for fun and participation but also to provide a clear pathway for players as they progress through the club.

Skill Development
From U6 to U11, our training sessions focus on:

  • Fundamental skills: passing, dribbling, shooting, and ball control.

  • Game understanding: learning positions, teamwork, and decision-making.

  • Physical development: coordination, balance, and fitness appropriate for each age group.

  • Social skills: communication, sportsmanship, and confidence on and off the pitch.

Our coaches use age-appropriate, engaging drills that encourage learning through play, ensuring every child develops at their own pace while having fun.

Pathway to Junior & Senior Football
MiniRoos is the first step in AOFC’s structured player pathway. As children progress:

  • Players move into junior competitive teams (U12–U16), where they continue to refine skills and game knowledge.

  • Talented players are offered opportunities to train in higher age groups or representative squads, including Football SA programs.

  • For those who aspire to reach the top levels, AOFC supports a transition into senior teams, building on the foundation developed in MiniRoos and junior squads.

Holistic Development
We are committed to developing more than just football skills. AOFC fosters teamwork, leadership, resilience, and respect, ensuring players grow as both athletes and individuals. Families and coaches work together to provide a supportive environment, helping young players reach their potential both on and off the pitch.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Age groups are determined by a child’s year of birth. For example, if a child turns 10 in 2025, they will be placed in the U10 team.

Placement outside a player’s standard age group is at the discretion of the Juniors Technical Director, coaching staff, and the Juniors Coordinator. In some cases, an exemption from Football Federation may be required, particularly when a child is placed below their age group (for example, if they are new to the sport).

  • We accommodate multiple boys’, girls’, and mixed teams across age groups from U6 to U16. Teams are generally formed on a first-registered, first-served basis.

In some age groups, we may field more than one team. When this occurs, we will do our best to consider requests for players to be placed with friends. However, please note that these requests cannot always be guaranteed and are subject to team availability.

At the discretion of the club and coaching staff, teams may also be organised based on player ability. While some training sessions may be combined across teams, separating groups for certain drills allows coaches to deliver more targeted and effective training that supports individual player development.

  • Players are placed in their age group based on their age as of 31 December of the previous year. For example, a child playing in the Under 9s must have been 8 years old on 31 December of the previous year — meaning they turn 9 during the season they are playing in.

  • Under FFSA guidelines, only a limited number of players can be placed in a younger age group.
Movement to older age groups may be granted based on skill, squad size, and other considerations at the club’s discretion.

Where necessary, the club may ask players to play up or down to support balanced team formations.

  • Requests are generally restricted to siblings or players who need to travel together. While we aim to accommodate where possible, this may involve placing a child in a slightly different age group to support team balance.

  • At Adelaide Olympic FC, the safety and well-being of our young players is our highest priority. All of our coaches are fully qualified and hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) to ensure a safe, supportive, and professional environment.

This requirement helps create a space where children can thrive both on and off the pitch. By maintaining the highest standards of child safety, our club is committed to providing a positive, secure, and nurturing environment for every player to learn, grow, and enjoy the game.
