Inspiring the Next Generation: Adelaide United Visit Our Girls Program
There are nights at the football club that stand out long after the final whistle, and Wednesday night was certainly one of them.
We were incredibly fortunate to welcome Adelaide United FC’s Maruschka Waldus and Dylan Holmes to our club to speak with our girls’ program, and the impact of their visit was immediate and lasting.
From the moment they arrived, there was a real sense of excitement around the rooms. For many of our young players, having the opportunity to meet and listen to athletes competing at the highest level of Australian football is something that doesn’t happen every day — and it’s these moments that help shape belief, ambition, and confidence in what is possible.
What made the evening so powerful wasn’t just the presence of elite players, but the honesty and authenticity in the way Maruschka and Dylan shared their journeys.
They spoke openly about what it takes to reach the professional level — the early mornings, the setbacks, the sacrifices, and the discipline required to keep pushing forward when things don’t always go to plan. Just as importantly, they spoke about the joy of the game, the friendships built through football, and the pride of representing their club at the highest level.
For our players, hearing these experiences firsthand helps bridge the gap between where they are now and where they dream of being. It reinforces that success isn’t instant, but it is achievable with commitment, resilience, and self-belief.
Beyond the football stories, what really stood out was the connection both Maruschka and Dylan made with the girls. They took the time to answer questions thoughtfully, share advice, and engage in conversations that went well beyond the pitch.
These interactions are incredibly valuable. They help our young athletes see that elite players are not distant or unreachable figures, but real people who have walked similar paths, faced similar doubts, and continued to grow through hard work and determination.
Moments like this also reinforce the importance of role models in women’s sport. Representation matters, and seeing strong, successful female athletes in person leaves a lasting impression that no training session alone can replicate.
As the evening wrapped up, there was a clear energy shift among our players — a renewed sense of motivation, excitement, and belief in their own potential. That is the true value of opportunities like this.
It’s not just about hearing from elite athletes. It’s about what those stories spark in the next generation: confidence to try, courage to improve, and ambition to dream bigger.
We are extremely grateful to Maruschka Waldus and Dylan Holmes for taking the time out of their schedules to visit our club, share their journeys, and invest in the development of our players. Your generosity and willingness to engage with our girls means more than you know.
On behalf of everyone at Adelaide Olympic FC, thank you for inspiring our players and helping to strengthen the pathway for young female footballers in our community.
Your visit has left a genuine impact, and we look forward to seeing our players carry that inspiration forward into their training, their matches, and their future in the game.
